July 2018 Wrap-Up
July was a pretty successful month with 7 books read, four of them being ARCs that I had to read and review. The ARCs that I read were Aetherchrist by Kirk Jones, Mean Girls by Micol Ostow, The Radical Element by Jessica Spotswood, and Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers by Sarena Ulibarri. To see my thoughts on those click the links on the titles!
The first book I read for my own pleasure was Beasts of Burden Vol. 1: Animal Rights, which is a graphic novel about a group of pets that encounter some supernatural forces in their neighborhood. If you'd like to see my full thoughts on this then click here!
The next book was Long Way Down by Jason Reynold which I read for a book club. The story follows a black teenage boy whose brother was recently shot and killed, and now wants revenge for those who killed his brother. While riding down the elevator of his apartment he sees people that try and talk him out of getting revenge. I found this book to be in the same vein as The Hate U Give, and in the end, gave it 4/5 stars.
The final book I read was Spill Zone: The Broken Vow by Scott Westerfeld, which is a sequel to The Spill Zone. The story follows a girl who lives on the outskirts of a disaster area, known as the Spill Zone, that was caused by an unknown event and that changed the border of reality. I gave this 4/5 stars also because it was a nice continuation of the story and ended with enough to continue on the story further.
