Review of "Loveboat, Taipei" by Abigail Hing Wen

Loveboat, Taipei was a stunning book. It was a perfect mixture of Crazy Rich Asians meets Frankly in Love.

To start, the writing was beautiful. In so many scenes I could feel such deep emotion in the text. I felt like I was right next to Ever when she was being scolded or praised, it all felt so genuine and real. The whole story just seemed to flow together in such a natural and easy-to-understand way, and it never felt like there was unnecessary information that was being forced onto me.

This book also dealt with and acknowledged racism and Asian stereotypes, and while I can't directly relate as a white reader, I still felt the power in them and how they were handled. Ever shows us that she's proud of who she is and where she comes from, and when facing a racist man in a restaurant she doesn't stand down against him.
