Jonathan Bastian is the creator, producer and host of Page by Page on Aspen Public Radio. He has interviewed many of the most influential writers from around the world, including Salman Rushdie, Richard Russo, Colum McCann, Bill McKibben, Jonathan Safran Foer, and many others.
His commentary has been heard nationally on NPR’s ‘All Things Considered.’
Born in 1984, Jonathan was raised in Woody Creek, Colorado. After a childhood of skiing, motorcycles and outdoor adventures in what has been described as a “beatnik-cowboy Shangri-La,” Jonathan was shipped East to attend the Hackley School and Colby College, where he studied philosophy, literature and writing.
After graduating in 2006, he lived in Tibetan refugee monasteries in India and Nepal to produce a series of recordings on Tibetan Buddhist rituals for the University of Virginia. Upon returning to Colorado, he took a job as an editor at the Aspen Daily News while also working as a contributor for the Denver Post.
Between 2007-2008 Jonathan moved back home to Woody Creek to live on the Hunter S. Thompson estate as a Writer in Residence. (Thompson, the author of works such Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, was Jonathan’s next-door neighbor as a child)
On top of hosting Page by Page on Aspen Public Radio, Jonathan continues to write a weekly book column in the Friday Timeout section of the Aspen Daily News. He lives in Woody Creek, Colorado.
